Athanasios Dermanis is Professor Emeritus (since September 2015) at the Department of Geodesy and Surveying, School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, where he has served as Full Professor (1982-2015). He has also been a member of the Department of Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography of the same School, for teaching and research activities only.
He holds a Surveying Engineering Diploma (MSc) from the above School as well as a PhD degree from the Department of Geodetic Sciences, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics.
His main research and academic interest is on Data Analysis Methods as applied to the various fields of Geomatics. He has taught relevant courses in a variety of fields, such as Linear Algebra, Statistics, Adjustment Methods, Analytical Photogrammetry, Digital Mapping, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems, Geostatistics, etc. In the last years his research is focused on the theory and implementation of Reference Systems, as well as on the analysis of crustal deformation from permanent GNSS station data.
